Interface Update

I've been visiting friends in Canberra for the last few days. There were very few opportunities for getting online, so the blog was silent.

Most of the photos I took during the trip were of family and friends at various celebrations (happy birthday Graeme, welcome home David) but I managed a few others as we were travelling.

I have added two new photos in the Land & Sea gallery. One is of a canola field near Holbrook and the other is of the mysterious Lake George, near Canberra.

Now That is Big!

Over at The Online Photographer, there is a post about a one-off Zeiss 1700 mm (yes, 1700) super-tele lens. This lens has been custom-built for a very rich customer and is made for a Hasselblad 203FE medium format camera. It weighs... Why am I writing all this out, go and read it for yourself.

Lights Flash by My Window

Last night I was a passenger in a car being driven down Melbourne's Westgate freeway. I had my trusty DSLR with me. The lights flashing by were intriguing, so I set the shutter to manual, turned off autofocus and pointed the camera out the window. I checked the first few images and made some adjustments to the shutter speed, finally settling on 1 second exposures. Most of the resulting images are not that great, but I got a few that I found interesting.

Interface Update

I have added two new images to the Structures gallery.
The first one is of a row of beach huts down at Mt Eliza on the Mornington Peninsula. This photo was taken in Autumn, so it doesn't have the bright sparkly aura that the more touristy photos of beach huts have. Also, the ones at Mt Eliza aren't quite so colourful as the more trendy ones at Brighton.
The second photo was taken during a recent New Zealand trip. It shows some of the decoration in the Art Deco city of Napier. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the Art Deco period.

The Music Goes Round My Head

Gerard Anderson is a Melbourne photographer who specialises in photographing the Melbourne music scene. I have been a big fan of his work for a long time. Technically his images are top-notch, considering the low lighting and other issues you have to deal with when photographing a live performance.
Gerard’s love for music and for photographing people is obvious. He captures the character and intensity of the performance superbly.
